Can you deliver without a marketplace taking commission?

Yes. You can take orders through your own channels and deliver them with your own drivers, or with couriers you hire per delivery, and pay no commission on the order value at all. The trade is that you take on dispatch, tracking and proof of delivery yourself, which is a software problem rather than a staffing one.

What the marketplace is actually charging for

A full-service marketplace bundles three things: demand, delivery, and the software that connects them. Commission pays for all three together, which is why it is charged on the order value rather than per delivery: the fee is priced against the customer they introduced, not against the miles driven.

The bundle stops making sense once a meaningful share of your orders come from customers who already know you. Those orders carry the same commission as a first-time customer the marketplace genuinely found for you.

What you take on instead

Dispatch: deciding who carries each order and getting the details to them.

Tracking: knowing where an order is when a customer telephones to ask.

Proof: being able to settle a claim that a delivery never arrived.

Capacity: having someone available at 8pm on a Friday, which is the part most operations underestimate.

The honest catch

Leaving a marketplace entirely means losing the demand it generates. Most operations that do this well run both: marketplace orders for discovery, own-channel orders for the regulars, and their own delivery for as much of it as they can.

Where Scorto fits

Scorto is the software half. It handles dispatch, tracking, proof of delivery and settlement, and gives you a vetted freelance network for the hours your own drivers cannot cover. It does not bring you customers. If what you need is demand rather than delivery, a marketplace is doing something Scorto does not.
